Delicia Harvey, from Cannock, talks with Aidan Burley MP at the Rugeley Jobs Fayre.Aidan Burley MP has paid tribute to Businesses' and Job seekers across the district for helping to make Cannock Chase's first ever Jobs Fayres' a success.

In all over 600 local people attended the two Jobs Fayres held at South Staffordshire College in Cannock and the Rugeley Rose Theatre and over 360 CVs were given out to employers.

The Jobs Fayres were organised and hosted by the local MP as part of his mission to get Cannock Chase working.

The Fayres offered local people a chance to meet potential employers and network with businesses who are looking to recruit either now or in the near future. As well as meeting potential employers at the fayres, local people also had the opportunity to attend a number of free seminars and workshops aimed at improving their employability skills.

One jobseeker interviewed by the Express & Star at the Rugeley Fayre was 25 year old Nicola Causer from Cannock, who has been searching for a job since April and despite sending out 90 CVs, has not had much luck.

Aidan chats to a prospective employee looking for work at the Rugeley Jobs Fayre."I have never been to a jobs fair before but this one seemed really good," she said. "I have been struggling to find work since April to get a job so I thought I would give this one a go. I gave three of my CVs out and also filled out an application form so hopefully something will come out of it."

Employers attending were also pleased with the Fayres. Helen George, a regional recruiter for Allied Healthcare Group praised the high turnout on the day, telling The Chronicle, "we have had some really strong candidates sign up. We have just been gien a conract with the local authority to recruit carers for the area, so this was just perfect."

Aidan welcomes a jobseeker to the Cannock Jobs Fayre. Many apprenticeship places were also signed up for on the days themselves, including over 60 at Cannock, with many more candidates filling in their application forms online with laptops provided at both Jobs Fayres.

Aidan was also pleased that the seminars at both Fayres proved so popular. In particular, the session on 'preparing for interview and body language' run by Lorna Sheldon at Cannock and 'making the right first impression' run by Debbie Bennett and David Kinch on behalf of JTI in Rugeley, were a huge hit with local people and should stand local jobseekers in better stead for future interviews.

Commenting Aidan said: "I would like thank all the businesses and jobseekers for getting involved in these two Job Fayres.

"At the beginning of this process I was clear that if we could help just one person find employment then the Fayres would be worthwhile. I am delighted therefore that a number of businesses have already got in touch saying that they have employed several people who they had met at the Fayres. I hope this is just the beginning and that many more attendees will go on to gain employment."

CHASE MP ORGANISES FIRST EVER CANNOCK & RUGELEY JOBS FAYRES

AIDAN CALLS ON BUSINESSES TO GET CANNOCK AND RUGELEY WORKING

Chase MP Aidan Burley has announced he is organising two Jobs Fayre's in Cannock and Rugeley in order to help the unemployed back into work.

The Cannock Jobs Fayre was held on Friday 23rd September 2011 at the Cannock Campus of South Staffordshire College, (The Green, Cannock, Staffs, WS11 1UE).

The Rugeley Jobs Fayre will be held on Friday 30th September 2011 at the Rugeley Rose Theatre, Taylors Lane, Rugeley, Staffordshire, WS15 2AA and will also be open to all local people (for free!) in Rugeley, from 10am-4pm.

In organising the event, Aidan has personally written to over 100 local businesses, organisations and charities, inviting them to the Jobs Fayres. He is also publicly calling on businesses to get behind the events and has requested all interested companies with job vacancies to get in touch and reserve a stall.

Employers will be able to book a table where they can have literature, leaflets, business cards and pull up banners, and local people will be free to drop by throughout the day and meet to discuss potential opportunities. There will also be seminars throughout the two days, including CV writing and interview technique workshops.

Commenting Aidan said: "As the local MP, many employers tell me they are looking to take on new people, either right now or in the near future, but that they do not know how best to meet those in search of a job.

"Yet at the same time many local people who are out of work tell me how desperate they are to get a job, to get back into the workplace, but that they do not know which employers are looking to recruit.

"That's why I am organising these Jobs Fayres – it is my attempt to put those two needs together, by getting employers and potential employees in the same room so that they can meet each other, network and discuss what opportunities may be available."

Aidan added: "I want companies to come along and back the Jobs Fayres. I want local people to spread the word – tell your neighbour, friend or family. These events will be fantastic opportunities to network with employers, learn about roles and opportunities with companies looking to recruit and even get some useful CV tips. I urge businesses to get behind the fayres and support their local community."

If you own a business, organisation or charity that either has posts available it is looking to fill or is likely to have vacancies in the near future, or is looking to develop a pool of potential recruits for a future date, then this is your chance to meet local people in search of a job.
