Aidan has welcomed the Government's announcement that the proposed high-speed rail route (HS2) linking London to the West Midlands and the north of England will go ahead.
Adding up to 26,000 more seats for rail passengers, and slashing journey times by as much as half, HS2 will help create jobs, growth and prosperity for Cannock Chase and the country as a whole.
Commenting, Aidan said: "This is great news for Cannock Chase and a massive investment by the government in the economy of the West Midlands. This project will support 40,000 jobs in the first phase alone, provide a boost to growth and deal with growing congestion on our railways. Local businesses will be more closely linked to the engine room of the south east and have far quicker access to clients and markets in London.
"This follows on from the recent announcement by Network Rail to approve the line speed upgrade of the Chase Line, which will help local people to travel into Walsall and Birmingham in half the time. I personally remain committed to lobbying the government for full electrification of the Chase Line over the coming years".
